We will be doing 2 different blocks for Lisa's month - one 15" block and one 9" block. I did not get a digital copy of the instructions so I am showing screen shots here, but you will be given printed instructions with your fabrics.
(Side note everyone: please try to remember to also submit digital instructions so I can post them here and they are easy for folks not in the bee to follow as well if they'd like!)
Ladies, a reminder. If you are not at the meeting to hand your blocks in, you must find a way to get your blocks to the queen by that week, be it dropping them off or putting them in the mail or whatever. You should not be hanging onto your blocks because you can not make it to a meeting, unless you have contacted the queen and worked it out with her.

May Bee Block - Robi
This month we are helping Robi on her quest to make a quilt with all 100 blocks from the Tula Pink City Sampler book with her Kaffe scraps! She has cut the pieces and put together kits for everyone and is requesting a siggy block be turned in as well. Piece of cake!
(Also, please note that you must return the instructions for the block to Robi. If you would like instructions to keep then you've gotta buy the book for yourself. We're all about protecting an artists intellectual property here, folks!)

April Bee Block - Stephanie
This month we are doing No Waste Flying Geese and half square triangles!
PART 1:
You will use the fabric in your packets to make make strips of geese to finish a table runner for my new dining room that I started ages ago! In your packets you will receive enough to make 5 or 6 strips of 4 geese each, which is the equivalent of a 12" block. Fabrics are all cut and sorted, and one or two might even be started (lucky you!)
Because the fabrics are pre-cut it is really important that you use this tutorial in order to make sure the sizes match up with whats already done.

Once you get your four geese, sew them all together in a strip, going in the same direction. Lather, rinse, repeat with the rest of your groups of fabric, and you're all done! You will be turning in 5 or 6 strips of geese. With all geese in the strip matching.
PART 2:
For your second block, you will be making a 12.5" block of any size half square triangles. You may use any scrappy fabrics you want in white, black, gray, mint, and coral. You may use all prints, or prints and solids, any fabric you like in this color scheme, appropriate for a older teenage girl. You can use all of the colors or just a couple, its your call. That is my only criteria for this block, so have at it!
PART 3:
As for a siggy block, you can make anything you want, as long as it is 5.5" and you sign it with a permanent fabric marker (no Sharpies please!). I have no preference what you do and what fabrics you use!
SUMMARY:
*5 or 6 strips of geese with fabric groups provided, that is the equivalent of 1 block not sewn together
*1 block thats 12.5" of half sq traingles in white, black, gray, mint, and coral
*siggy block - anything 5.5" in any fabrics
If you will be at the Kenan lecture on 5/14 you can turn it into me there. Otherwise turn it in to Lisa at 5/16 meeting, or you can drop it in the mail to me if you won't be at any May events.

WNYMQG Bee - Round 2 Intro
With the 2nd Round of our bee starting this month, I thought I'd post a recap of the rules and schedule. I will also post the block instructions every month in case so everyone else interested in the tutorial can use it! Be sure to bring your bee quilt to show and tell whenever you finish it so we can feature it here. And remember the golden rule of quilting bees - sew for others as you'd want to be sewn for you!
BEE SCHEDULE:
APRIL - Stephanie
MAY - Robi
JUNE - Lisa
JULY - Pam
AUGUST - Bonnie
SEPTEMBER - Jan
OCTOBER - Victoria
NOVEMBER - OFF
DECEMBER - Marija
JANUARY - Noel
FEBRUARY - Gayle
MARCH - Sharon
RULES:
1. This is a WNYMQG bee, so be prepared to attend meetings in order to be a member in the bee. For each month a Queen Bee will choose a block from (a) online tutorials or (b) 500 Quilt Blocks. The requested block should be two (2) blocks measuring at 12” finished each (12.5" unfinished). **You must make a sample block ahead of time to ensure measurements are correct for the pattern you are requesting.** As Queen you shall bring your sample block to the meeting of your assigned month to share with the group, pass around, allow questions to be asked.
2. No later than the WNYMQG meeting date of your Queen month you must share your choice specifying colors, block pattern and or background. Be prepared to bring your block and ideas to the WNYMQG to share with the bee members as well as post via the WNYMQG Flickr group. Start a new discussion thread in Flickr during the same weekend you share your block at the meeting. Thread title ex "March Bee Block". Share all the pertinent info people need to know. Be sure to email anyone who was not at the meeting if you have to get fabric to them to make arrangements.NEW: Please provide an electronic copy (or link) of your instructions and pictures of your sample to Stephanie by the meeting date of your month to be posted to the blog.
3. Only modern 100% cotton fabric is to be used in the blocks.
4. As Queen you have two fabric options for your assignment:
a) Assign a project using your own stash. Bring your stash and divvy out fabric to the bees for your project to be completed with the fabric you’ve selected and provided. Great way to get those “I want to do to this quilt top but haven’t gotten around to making all those blocks” projects out of the way with the support of the Guild.
b) Scrappy project. Ask bee members to pick from their own stash to complete your project. You can specify general colors or refuse colors but you cannot be overly specific in your color requests. (ie: I would like green fabrics but prefer brighter greens. Don’t say: Please use lime green.) Requests that are too specific may require you to bring in your own scraps for members to use.
5. You may appoint different blocks to different individuals but it MUST be organized and it needs to be clear who is doing what. This can be done via a list in the Flickr Group or via a Google Doc.
6. Unless you’ve provided background fabric for members to use you may ask bees to use the following background choices for your month:
a) Kona White
b) Kona Charcoal
c) Kona Ash
7. Blocks are to be brought to WNYMQG meetings to be given to the Queen in the month following her assigned month. Life happens and sometimes we aren’t able to attend every meeting - please be courteous and ask the Queen if you can give it to her at a subsequent meeting or if she’d like them mailed to her. If you can not make a meeting it is your responsibility to make sure the Queen gets her blocks.
8. Signatures blocks are at the option of the Queen Bee. Queen Bees please notify us whether you'd like a Siggy Block and which one you'd recommend us creating. [This is a popular example, but you may use any you like if you chose to have people make them: www.psiquilt.com/2010/01/siggy-block-tutorial.html]

- Officers reports.
- Nominations from New Board to Create the 2015-2017 Exec Board
- President: Lisa
- Treasurer: Victoria
- Secretary: Kim
- VP of Charities: Pam
- VP of Events: Stephanie
- VP of Communications: Rebecca
- To learn more about the roles of the Executive Board and the rules of the Guild please see the bylaws here.
- Challenges facing WNYMQG
- Membership Issues
- Do we want to continue requiring meeting attendance, what does meeting attendance requirements accomplish for us as a group? Some people are in favor of doing away with meeting attendance requirements. [We currently require 2 meetings and then payment of dues before becoming a member.] Others voiced a concern that coming to meetings where no one attends is discouraging and the attendance requirement encourages participation. One member suggested that we have tiers of membership based on a member's commitment to attending events/meetings. Nothing was decided at this meeting regarding this issue..it was simply brought up as an issue to be considered for the new Exec Board.
- Longevity —> NYS Non-Profit. This came up in the context of whether it is worth staying with the MQG. Or do we want to branch off and become our own group? Do we want to be a Guild or a Social Group. The Board Members are continuing this discussion via email prior to the December meeting.
- Tax Issues --> Still taking our cues from the MQG.
- Updates on Bee.
- November Month is Robi!

- If you need fabric from Robi please contact her via email or Facebook.
- Prior Queen Bees tried to identify who else they needed blocks from. If you haven't received blocks from everyone please let them know.
- If the Queen is at a meeting and you are not it is Your Obligation to figure out how to get fabric from/to them.
- If the Queen is not at the meeting is up to her to figure out how to get blocks from or fabric to people.
- Do not expect the Queen to pay postage to provide you with fabric if you don't attend the meeting. And Queens do not expect people to mail to you if you aren't going to attend the meeting.
- This Bee is centered on meeting attendance. If you cannot attend please communicate with the Queen and remember to consider the burden of whose responsibility it is to pay for postage.
- New business.
- December Meeting - Rebecca will be unable to attend due to a wedding. But hopefully with Stephanie's help she'll be appearing via FaceTime!
- For the December Meeting people will be bringing food. Please go to the Events section of the Facebook page to share what you intend to bring!
- Board members have been notified via email that there will be a vote at the December meeting concerning continuation with MQG Membership. Proxy voting is not permitted, however, board members unable to attend the Dec Meeting are encouraged to email the Exec Board their vote.
- Show and Tell
Pam shows us her feather quilt used from the feather swap...
Marija's Bee Month Blocks (so far...)
